NEW PALTZ, NY – Senior captain
Owen Fauth notched both Vassar goals and the Brewers defense held on as men's soccer defeated New Paltz by a 2-1 margin in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon. The Brewers move to 3-2-1 on the season, while the Hawks are now 3-2-1 overall.
Vassar got things going early as Fauth connected off a pass from senior

In the second stanza, the Brewers continued to play outstanding defense, holding off a 7-2 shot onslaught by the homestanding Hawks. New Paltz finally broke onto the board in the 76th minute as Joseph DiPreta scored past Vassar keeper
Eric Wnorowski on a penalty kick.
The Hawks tried for the equalizer, nearly knotting things up in the 79th minute, but a shot from Philip Varner sailed just high over the top of the net. The Brewers played strong over the final 10 minutes of action, holding on for their third win of the season.
Vassar owned an 8-7 advantage in shots, while the Hawks led in shots on goal by a 6-4 edge. The home team also held a 9-4 margin in corner kicks as well.
In goal, Wnorowski earned the victory with a five-save effort, while Hawks goalie Christian Micheli made two stops in the loss.
The Brewers return to action on Saturday when they host Montclair State on Gordon Field. Kickoff is set for 2pm as Vassar celebrates Grassroots Soccer.
