POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - It was a solid start to the 2022-23 season on Saturday for the Vassar College women's tennis team, which opened its campaign hosting the annual Vassar Scramble at Josselyn Courts. The Brewers welcomed Hamilton, New Paltz and NYU to town as the four teams played a variety of pairings across singles and doubles action.

In singles play, the first flight featured rookie Iris Li with an 8-7 (2) win over New Paltz's Justine Stanejko. Sophomore Macey Dowd shouldered an 8-5 loss to NYU's Dakota Fordham, while senior Tatum Blalock fell by an 8-2 margin to Hamilton's Hannah Apsey.

Second flight action featured rookie Erin McCusker with an 8-0 win over New Paltz's Onalee Batcheller. Blalock then went up against NYU's Ida Krause, falling by an 8-4 score, while McCusker then earned an 8-3 win over Hamilton's Stephanie Pratt.

In the third flight, Brewers rookie Ananya Krishnan was an 8-0 winner over Anya Barteck from New Paltz, while junior Sofie Shen was an 8-6 winner against NYU's Karina Jensrud. Sophomore Elyse Duley powered her way to an 8-6 win over Hamilton's Claire Cutler.

Rookie Maya Thompson kicked off the fourth flight, posting an 8-0 win over New Paltz's Loretta Donovan. McCusker shouldered a tough 8-7 (6) loss to NYU's Jimena Menendez, while Li was an 8-4 victor over Hamilton's Shannon Cicero.

Fifth flight action saw Blalock earn an 8-1 win against New Paltz's Alex Chimenti, while Krishnan suffered an 8-2 loss to NYU's Aditit Narayan. Shen then picked up an 8-0 win over Hamilton's Kate Solowey.

Shen answered once again in the sixth flight, earning an 8-0 win over New Paltz's Amirah Alston. Duley fell 8-3 to NYU's Anastasiia Balyk, while Thompson suffered an 8-4 loss to Hamilton's Hannah Walpole.

In the seventh flight, Duley bested New Paltz's Nina Genzone, 8-0, while Dowd also earned an 8-0 win over Genzone, followed by an 8-5 win by Li against NYU's Glenda Boeker. Dowd closed out the flight with an 8-2 victory over Hamilton's Samantha Rainero.

Senior Jade Wilkinson opened the eighth flight with an 8-1 win over New Paltz's Lillian Nowak, while Thompson fell 8-3 to NYU's Chang. The flight rounded out with Wilkinson, who fell to Hamilton's Lila Freeman 8-6, but rebounded in the ninth flight with an 8-4 win over NYU's Kendall Kemerschen.

Flight one of doubles saw the duo of Dowd and Duley combine for an 8-1 win over New Paltz's Barteck and Batcheller, while also falling to NYU's Fordham and Krause, 8-1.

Second flight saw Blalock and McCusker best NYU's Balyk and Menendez, 8-1, while Krishnan and Thompson combined for an 8-2 win over New Paltz's Donovan and Stanejko.

Shen and Li powered their way to an 8-6 win over NYU's Jensrud and Boeker in the third flight, which also saw Blalock and McCusker post an 8-4 win over New Paltz's Alston and Isabel van der Veen.

Action for the Brewers rounded out in the fourth flight as Thompson and Krishnan suffered a tough 8-4 loss to NYU's Kamerschen and Chang, but rebounded with an 8-0 win against Hamilton's Rainero and Lorelei Glidden.

Vassar returns to action to conclude this year's Scramble on Sunday morning. Action gets underway on Josselyn Courts at 9am.
