HOBOKEN, NJ – A pair of second half goals proved to be the difference as Stevens Institute of Technology posted a 2-0 victory over Vassar College in non-conference action on Saturday evening. The 25th-ranked Ducks move to 3-0-1 overall, while the Brewers are now 2-2-0 on the young season.
Following a scoreless opening half of action, the Ducks finally broke through in the 64th minute as a corner kick in by Bruce Andino to the middle saw Emerson Kuzemka get the touch. The ball sailed into the right corner of the goal for the 1-0 Stevens advantage.
The Ducks continued to press minutes later as a shot from Emerico Vespucci was saved by senior keeper
Eric Wnorowski, while a Kuzemka shot was blocked in front. Stevens saw Adam Silva with another wide shot as the Ducks defense continued to shut down the visiting Brewers.
Stevens then made it a 2-0 margin in the 82nd minute as Luca Campell headed in the ball off a right side cross from Andino. The Brewers attempted to get back into it as Keker sent a shot in on goal that was quickly stopped by Ducks goalie Justin Cross to keep the visitors off the board.
The homestanding Ducks posted an 11-8 margin in shots, including a 7-2 edge on goal. Cross picked up the victory in goal for Stevens, making two saves, while Wnorowski shouldered the loss with five stops over 90 minutes of action.
Vassar returns to action on Wednesday when it travels across the river to face New Paltz at 4pm.
