POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - A solid effort from the top to the bottom of the lineup helped pace Vassar College past Ithaca College, 9-0 in Liberty League men's tennis action on Saturday at Walker Field House. The Brewers move to 6-6 overall with the win and are now 3-2 in league action, while the Bombers are 7-6 with a 1-3 Liberty League mark.
Doubles action got things going on the day as sophomore
Arun Guruswamy and rookie
James Balon posted an 8-4 win over Ithaca's Artem Khaybullin and Jacob Wachs from three. Next off was the sophomore duo of
Jay Wong and
Benjamin Almquist, who posted an 8-5 win over Minos Stavrakas and Nicolas Luis from two. The final match off court was senior
Mathew Yee and rookie Arnav Aghostinho, as the duo recorded an 8-5 win over the Bombers' pair of Deon Kraft and Eric Dubilirer.
Singles action saw the Brewers take a 4-0 lead as Agostinho posted a solid 6-0, 6-0 victory over Khaybullin from four. Vassar secured the match victory from five as senior
Mihajlo Ivanovic recorded a 6-1, 6-2 win against Wachs from five. Next off for the 6-0 advantage was Yee at two, as he notched a 6-1, 6-0 win over Dubilirer.
From three, Almquist was a 6-2, 6-1 winner against Kraft, followed by a 6-4, 6-3 win by Wong from one, besting Luis. The final match off was the sixth flight as Vassar sophomore
Nihal Kothari defeated Tyler Del Zoppo, 6-1, 6-1.
Vassar is right back in action on Sunday with an 11am match at NYU. Ithaca is back on court next Friday, traveling to Hobart for a 5pm Liberty League match.
