POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Hobart posted a doubles sweep and captured four singles victories enroute to a 7-2 win over Vassar on Saturday in the Liberty League regular season finale for both teams. The Statesmen move to 15-6 with a 6-2 league mark, while the Brewers are now 9-8 and 5-3 in Liberty League action. Today's match also marked Senior Day for the Brewers as the squad honored Class of 2022 members,
Mathew Yee and
Mihajlo Ivanovic.
In doubles play, the Statesmen saw Jack Ledford and Thomas Shung record an 8-4 victory over Vassar sophomore Arun Guruswamny and rookie
James Balon from three. Hobart then picked up an 8-4 win from one as Jett Wright and Sean Pesin bested senior captain
Mathew Yee and rookie
Arnav Agostinho.
The Statesmen rounded out doubles action with a narrow 8-6 win at two as Harry Lyu and Troy Steiner defeated Brewers sophomores
Jay Wong and
Benjamin Almquist.
Heading into singles action, the Brewers picked up a win at six as senior captain
Mihajlo Ivanovic powered his way to a 6-2, 6-2 win against Steiner from six. Next up at two, Lyu earned a 6-2, 6-3 win against Yee, while from four, Jacob Linares posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Guruswamy.
From one, Winter Fagerberg was a 6-2, 1-6, 1-0 (10-7) winner over Wong, while from three, Pesin was a 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8) win against Almquist at three. The final match of the day saw a Brewers victory as Agostinho was a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5) winner against Hyat Oyer.
Both teams are back in action next weekend when they compete at the Liberty League Tournament, hosted at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. Final seedings and pairings will be determined upon the conclusion of all league action.
