POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Powered by a strong doubles efforts and a near sweep in singles action, the Vassar College women's tennis team posted an 8-1 win over William Smith College in the Liberty League regular season finale for both teams. The 25th-ranked Brewers move to 15-2 and finish a perfect 8-0 in Liberty League play to secure the top-seed in the upcoming league tournament. The Herons finish at 4-13 and 1-7 in league action.
Doubles action opened with win at three as rookie
Elyse Duley and senior captain
Cara Kizilbash notched an 8-0 win over Charlotte Sanford and Crystal Morgans. The Brewers went up 2-0 in the match as senior captain
Melina Stavropoulos and sophomore
Sofie Shen bested Maggie Bonomo and Audreyanna Camacho, 8-3 from one.
Vassar made it a 3-0 advantage as junior
Tatum Blalock and rookie
Macey Dowd defeated Isabelle Goings-Perrot and Julia Pida, 8-3.
Singles action saw junior
Jade Wilkinson post a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Sanford from six. Next off was Stavropoulos as she posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Goings-Perrot from three. A win by Kizilbash came soon after in a 6-0, 6-1 win against Pida.
From five, Duley recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win against Morgans, while Shen bested Camacho at two by a 6-0, 6-3 margin. Rounding out the days action was the first flight duo of Blalock and Bonomo. The Herons #1 posted a 6-3 win to open, but Blalock battled back with a 6-3 win of her own. In the super-tiebreaker, Bonomo pulled out the 10-4 score to win.
