CANTON, NY – St. Lawrence used a seven-goal second quarter to build up a strong lead enroute to a 16-8 win over Vassar College in Liberty League women's lacrosse action on Saturday at Hall-Leet Stadium. The Saints move to 14-1 and 8-1 in league play, while the Brewers are now 4-10 and 2-7 in the Liberty League.
The Saints kicked off the scoring behind a tally from Callie O'Neill at 14:39 of the opening quarter. The Brewers responded behind a score from junior
Annie Uyeki to tie the match, but St. Lawrence answered once again as Isabel Silvia scored with 8:10 to go. As time wound down, Vassar tied it at 2-all as senior
Ashley Roberts scored her 18th of the season.
Second quarter action opened with back-to-back goals from the Saints, but Vassar answered as Roberts and rookie
Reilly Mulcahy scored to make it a 4-4 game with 8:55 left in the stanza. The Saints broke open the game at the 7:25 mark, scoring five straight goals for a 9-4 lead into halftime.
Junior
Maddy Kretten scored out of the halftime for the Brewers and the two teams traded goals as Uyeki netted one following an SLU score, followed by a Kretten goal with nine seconds remaining for a 11-7 margin.
In the final quarter, rookie
Emma Torkelson scored early in the fourth, but the Brewers could not hold off the Saints – who banked four straight to conclude the game's scoring.
St. Lawrence was led by Bella Hillman, who tallied five goals. O'Neill added four goals with an assist to go along with seven draw controls and three ground balls, while Silvia posted three goals, three assists, eight draws and four ground balls. Charlotte Powell added a goal and an assist, while Neve Ley also had a goal and a helper. In goal, Raelynn Bovenzi earned the victory, making two saves over 45:00 of action. Courtney Lynn came on in relief, not making a save in the final quarter.
For Vassar, Uyeki had two goals with an assist, while Kretten and Roberts each had two tallies. Kretten, junior

Madison Bouggess also had two draw controls each for the game, while sophomore goalie
Lauren Johns posted three ground balls to go along with 15 saves in the loss for the Brewers.
Vassar concludes its regular season schedule next Saturday when it travels to William Smith for an 11am contest.
