Women's Lacrosse Drops League Decision to #8 Herons

William Smith posts 24-3 win over Brewers in league regular season finale

GENEVA, NY – Ten different players scored to lead eighth-ranked William Smith College to a 24-3 victory over Vassar College in Liberty League women's lacrosse action on Saturday in the league finale for both teams. The Herons are now 15-1 overall and 10-0 in league play, while the Brewers conclude their season at 4-11 with a 2-8 Liberty League mark.

The Herons opened the scoring at 14:29 of the opening quarter, but the Brewers answered less than 20 seconds later as rookie Elizabeth Kendrick scored her second of the year to tie the game at 1-all. William Smith responded, dropping in eight straight goals over the remainder of the frame, broken up at 1:40 as rookie Emma Torkelson converted a feed from senior Ashley Roberts to make it 9-2.

William Smith held the advantage in the second and third quarters, scoring 12 straight goals for a 22-2 lead going into the final stanza. Following a quick goal from Emily Griffin, the Brewers saw rookie Kali Ringler convert a feed from Torkelson for the Brewers third and final score.

The Herons were paced by Allie McGinty, who scored four goals with four assists. Molly Davis had four goals with a helper, while Maddie Montgomery notched three goals with three assists and five draw controls. Payton McMahon had three goals with two assists, adding seven draw controls. In goal, Maura Smeader was the victor, not forced to make any saves over 30 minutes. Mady Dicks took over for the final 30 minutes, making one stop.

Vassar saw Torkelson pace the effort with a goal and an assist. Junior Maddy Kretten recorded four draw controls, while junior Annie Uyeki, Kenrick, Ringler and junior Caroline Smith each had a caused turnover. In goal, sophomore Lauren Johns shouldered the loss, making five saves. Senior Jackie Molloy made two saves over 29:07, while rookie Bree MacMullen did not make any saves in 10:18.
