POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Vassar men's tennis team battled through a number of hard fought singles matches, holding on for a 6-3 victory over Union College in Liberty League action on Saturday at Josselyn Courts. The Brewers move to 9-6 overall and 5-2 in league play, while the Dutchmen slip to 5-10 with a 3-5 Liberty League mark.
Doubles action got underway with the first point going to Union as Ioannis Binopoulos and Nick Weitzman combined for an 8-4 win over Vassar sophomore

James Balon. Next off was the first flight as senior captain

Arnav Agostinho powered their way to an 8-4 win over Aidan O'Brien and Ben Jacobs.
The Brewers then grabbed an 8-6 win at three as sophomores
Jay Wong and
Benjamin Almquist bested Cameron Klepper and Bailey McAtee to give the home team a 2-1 lead heading into singles action.
Singles action saw Klepper garner a 6-1, 7-5 win over Agostinho from four, while Almquist turned momentum with a 6-3, 6-3 victory against O'Brien from three. Senior captain
Mihajlo Ivanovic was a 6-4, 6-4 victor over Ian Schunk from five, while two saw Jacobs battle back for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Yee.
With the Brewers holding a 4-3 lead, the final two singles matches proved huge as Wong battled against Binopoulos at one, while sophomore
Nihal Kothari took on Thomas McGuire at six. From one, Binopoulos won the opening set, but a second set tie breaker, coupled with a close third set saw Wong earn the win by a 2-6, 7-6 (7-1), 7-5 margin and seal the match win for Vassar.
The final match was no less a battle as Kothari won the first set, followed by a McGuire second set victory to move it to a third. In the end, Kothari earned the victory with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 score.
Vassar is right back in action on Sunday when it travels to Stevens for a 12pm match against the Ducks.
