PASADENA, CA - The Vassar College women's tennis team suffered its first dual meet loss of the season on Wednesday, falling at Caltech by a 9-0 margin this afternoon. The Brewers are now 6-1 on the season, while the homestanding Beavers move to 4-1 overall.
Caltech opened with a strong doubles effort, posting a win at one as Anna Tifrea and Emily Zhang combined for an 8-5 win over VC senior captain
Melina Stavropoulos and sophomore
Sofie Shen. At two, Athena Kolli and Anika Arora bested juniro
Tatum Blalock and rookie
Macey Dowd, 8-4, while from three, Michelle Hyun and Payal Patel notched an 8-3 win over senior captain
Cara Kizilbash and junior
Jade Wilkinson.
Singles action saw a 6-0, 6-1 victory by Tifrea over Blalock at the first flight, followed by a 6-1, 6-2 win by Zhang over Dowd from two. Three saw Riti Agarwal notch a 4-6, 7-5,10-2 tiebreaker win over Shen, while Yochana Benchetrit notched a 6-3, 6-0 win against Stavropoulos at four. Five was a 6-4, 6-3 win by Hyun over Kizilbash, while action rounded out at six as Nina Solovyeva had a 6-1, 6-1 win against Duley.
The Brewers return to action on Thursday when they face Whittier College at 3:30pm (PST).
