WHITTIER, CA - Behind a balanced effort from each end of the lineup, the Vassar College women's tennis team posted a 9-0 victory over Whittier College on Thursday afternoon. The Brewers move to 7-1 on the season, while the Poets are now 2-2 overall.
Doubles action kicked things off as the first flight duo of senior 
Melina Stavropoulos and sophomore 
Sofie Shen notched an 8-4 win over Whittier's Avery Turner and Manasvi Vardham. Next off court was Vassar senior captain 
Cara Kizilbash and rookie 
Elyse Duley as they gave the Brewers a 2-0 advantage with an 8-3 win over Julie Cutler and Emily List. Vassar rounded out doubles play with an 8-4 win at two as junior 
Tatum Blalock and rookie 
Macey Dowd defeated Jasmine Saunders and Maci Davis.
The Brewers made it a 4-0 match score quickly into singles play as Stavropoulos won by retirement from the fourth flight. Next off was Shen at three as she defeated Vardham, 6-1, 6-0 to secure the match victory with the fifth point. From five, Kizilbash was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Cutler, while Blalock was next off court at one with a 6-3, 6-0 decision over Saunders.
Action concluded from two as Dowd posted a 6-3, 6-0 score against Turner to conclude match play.
Vassar is off on Friday, but returns to the court on Saturday in their final California match of the break. The Brewers will face Chapman in Orange, CA in an 11am (PST) match.
