ORANGE, CA - The Vassar College men's tennis team opened its spring training trip at Chapman University on Tuesday afternoon, shouldering a tough 7-2 loss to the Panthers at Anderson Tennis Center. Chapman moves to 1-3 on the season in dual meet action, while the Brewers are now 3-3 overall.
Doubles action saw the homestanding Panthers open with a 2-1 advantage. At one, Caleb Wilkins and Harry Cohen combined for an 8-1 victory over Vassar senior 
Mathew Yee and rookie 
Arnav Agostinho. Two was a victory for the Brewers as sophomores 
Benjamin Almquist and 
Jay Wong edged Kameron DeHart and Cal Hegstom, 8-7 to tie the score, but at three, Andy Hess and Julien Sanseverino posted an 8-2 win over Brewers senior 
Mihajlo Ivanovic and sophomore 
Arun Guruswamy.
In singles action, the Panthers took the victory at one as Wilkins bested Yee, 6-2, 6-0. From two, Cohen outlasted Wong, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 to move Chapman to a 4-1 lead. Despite a win at five by Ivanovic as he bested Danny Marsh, 7-5, 6-4, the Brewers were unable to hold off the homestanding Panthers. Hayes defeated Guruswamy at three, 6-4, 6-2, while Marks was a 6-3, 6-4 winner over 
James Balon at six. At four, DeHart was able to gut out a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) win against Almquist to close out the match.
Vassar continues its California trip on Wednesday when it heads to the University of Redlands for a 3pm (PST) match against the Bulldogs.
