POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – A strong offensive effort powered the Vassar College women's lacrosse team to a 14-11 victory over Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in Liberty League action on Friday evening. The win moves the Brewers to 3-3 and 1-0 in league action, while the visiting Tigers slip to 2-5 and 1-2 in the Liberty League.
It was a wild opening quarter of action for the homestanding Brewers as Vassar tacked on seven goals, including three from senior captain
Ashley Roberts. It was junior attack
Annie Uyeki that got things going as she fired a shot in at the 11:00 mark. Roberts answered at 8:28, collecting a pass from sophomore attack
Lola Wright before netting her sixth of the season for the 2-0 lead.

Maddy Kretten kept the momentum going at 7:47, driving in the lane for a low shot past RIT keeper Linda Nutter. Uyeki then notched her eighth of the season with 3:40 left on the clock, followed by another score from Roberts less than a minute later for the 5-0 advantage.

Trina Chou found the back of the net, while Uyeki earned her first assist of the afternoon, feeding Roberts in front for the 7-0 margin at 1:25. The Tigers finally got on the board with 29 seconds remaining in the frame as graduate student Colette Rigas zipped one past Vassar's
Lauren Johns.
RIT owned the second quarter margin, opening at the 8:15 mark as senior Aldyn Savage notched her 11th of the season. The was followed later in the frame by back-to-back goals from junior attack Bailey West, who converted a pass by senior Myranda D'Antico at the 4:42 mark, followed by an unassisted tally with nine seconds left till half.
Rigas helped the visiting Tigers close the gap to 8-6 to start the third stanza, but rookie attack
Reilly Mulcahy answered on the other end for the Brewers with her ninth of the year. West then dropped in a goal, assisted by rookie midfielder Ellen Doan, to make it a 9-7 game. Vassar junior attack
Kateri Sanseviro scored at 6:44 – her 16th of the 2022 campaign – corralling a pass from Roberts, while sophomore attack
Yael Gelman scored her sixth of the season off a feed from Wright for the 11-7 margin with 1:10 to play in the third.
RIT saw West tally to close out the third quarter, but the fourth opened in a 2-0 run for the Brewers as Mulcahy scored at 13:47, followed by a Kretten from Roberts combination to make it 13-8 at 12:33. The Tigers saw sophomore midfielder Carrissa Hlywa and Rigas go back-to-back to close the gap to three (13-10) with 7:40 remaining. Savage scored for RIT following another Mulcahy goal, but the Brewers held possession over the final two minutes to seal the win.
Roberts led the way for Vassar, recording a game-high four goals with two assists for six points. All six of her shots went on goal. Mulcahy added three goals with two ground balls, a caused turnover and two draw controls, while Wright finished with a game-high three assists, adding a ground ball, a caused turnover and a game-best seven draw controls. Uyeki chipped in with two goals and a helper, while Kretten also had two goals.
For RIT, West also posted a game-high four goals as all five of her shots went on goal. She added six draw controls as well for the contest. Rigas and Savage posted three goals with an assist, as Savage also recorded six draw controls.
In goal, Vassar's Johns improved to 2-1 on the season with a 14 save effort. The Tigers saw Nutter shoulder the loss, stopping eight shots, while junior Victoria Rea came on in relief over the final 5:34, but did not have a save.
Both teams are back in action on Saturday for Liberty League tilts. The Brewers welcome the University of Rochester to Weinberg Turf, while RIT heads to Bard. Both contests begin at 2pm.
