POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Powered by a six-goal opening quarter, the University of Chicago posted a 14-9 victory over Vassar College in women's lacrosse action on Monday at Weinberg Turf Field. The 23rd-ranked Maroons improved to 5-1 overall, while the Brewers are now 2-3 on the season.

Chicago quickly came back in the final 4:16 of the game, firing in four unanswered goals, including a pair from freshman midfielder Evelina Swigart to open a 6-2 margin following the opening quarter of play.
Second stanza action saw Vassar answer as rookie attack
Reilly Mulcahy drove the lane for the team's third tally, while Mulcahy then assisted later in the frame on a score by Ringler to move it to a two-goal game with 3:41 to go.
The 6-4 score stood until halftime and out of the intermission, the Maroons opened up their advantage once more on a 3-0 run with two goals coming from sophomore midfielder Lulu Hardy. Down by a 9-4 margin, the Brewers scored as junior attack
Kateri Sanseviro crashed the net, but Swigart answered on the other end for Chicago to make it a 10-5 game heading into the final quarter.
Sanseviro netted another goal for the Brewers to open the fourth stanza, but three straight Maroons tallies, including another from Hardy, opened a 13-6 lead for the visitors. Vassar answered as junior attack
Annie Uyeki recorded back-to-back goals to cut the deficit to five (13-8), but Chicago once again responded as senior middie Ali Sheehy got one past Brewers senior

Vassar saw Mulcahy score a final tally late, but it wasn't enough to close the gap.
Hardy paced all players with four goals, adding seven shots (six on goal) with two ground balls and a caused turnover. Swigart notched three goals with three draw controls, while Johnson posted a goal and three assists. Junior midfielder Becky Van Kirk led the way with nine draw controls, also adding three ground balls and a caused turnover. In goal, rookie Rachel Keefe made eight saves while also recording four ground balls.
Vassar saw Ringler pace the effort with two goals and a helper, adding two ground balls as well. Sanseviro posted two goals, as did Uyeki, while freshman defender
Emily Stoff had a game-high five ground balls to go along with a caused turnover and two draw controls. Senior midfielder
Ashley Roberts added two draw controls, while junior middie
Trina Chou notched three ground balls, two caused turnover and two draw controls. In goal, Johns suffered the loss with six saves, adding three ground balls and a caused turnover. Molloy came on in relief for the fourth quarter, notching one save.
The Brewers return to the field on Friday when they open Liberty League play against RIT at 4pm on Weinberg Turf Field. The Maroons are also in action on Friday, taking on Colorado College in Saint Paul, Minnesota at 3pm (CDT).
