POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - It was a clean sweep for the Vassar men's tennis team, defeating Bard in straight sets for a 9-0 Liberty League win on Sunday afternoon. The Brewers move to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in league action, while the Raptors are now 0-4 and 0-3 in the Liberty League.
Doubles action saw the third flight duo of senior
Mihajlo Ivanovic and sophomore
Arun Guruswamy powering past Bard's Henry Wandover and Yashar Khan by an 8-0 margin. Next, the first flight pair of senior
Mathew Yee and rookie
Arnav Agostinho bested Drew Soleiman and Joas Erasmus, 8-0 for the 2-0 advantage, before the Brewers completed the doubles sweep with an 8-0 win at two as sophomore
Jay Wong and
Benjamin Almquist bested Oliver Allen and Augustin Johnson, 8-0.
Singles action saw Vassar move to 4-0 on the scoreboard as Yee took down Erasmus, 6-0, 6-0. Next was Wong at one as he posted a 6-0, 6-0 win against Soleiman to seal the match victory with the fifth point.
Agostinho earned the win at four, defeating Johnson by a 6-0, 6-0 margin, while five was a 6-0, 6-0 victory for Vassar sophomore
Nihal Kothari. Almquist went on to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Allen at three, while rookie
James Balon closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Wandover.
Vassar returns to the courts on March 8 when it opens its trip to the West Coast with 1pm (PST) match at Chapman University in Orange, CA.
