Men's Squash Concludes Weekend Action at Kenyon

Brewers fall 9-0 to Hobart and Wesleyan

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – A busy weekend of action came to a close for the Vassar College men's squash team on Sunday, taking on Hobart College and Wesleyan University at the Kenyon Squash Courts. The Brewers suffered tough 9-0 losses to both the Statesmen and the Cardinals, moving to 3-8 on the season.

Against Hobart, Juan Carlos LaCerda-Jones posted an 11-5, 11-3, 11-1 win over Vassar rookie Kyle Benson from seven, while five saw Giacomo Dalle Molle with an 11-7, 11-1, 11-7 victory against Brewers freshman Kyle Chen. Three was an 11-0, 11-5, 11-3 win for Roberto Vega over Vassar rookie Razaan Lalji, while from two, Javier De La Vega posted an 11-3, 11-5, 11-7 win over senior captain Sameer Mustafa.

Six was an 11-5, 11-1, 11-6 win for James Mazzarelli over Vassar junior Jarid Haslinger, while at nine, John Solano had an 11-0, 11-5, 11-6 win over VC's Wyatt Kern. From eight, Raji Davenport was an 11-5, 13-11, 11-4 winner over senior Josh Finkelstein, while at the top of the ladder, Omar Kiwan won by a 10-12, 11-4, 11-3, 11-6 margin against junior captain Rithik Jalali.

The match wrapped up from four as Sayf Elhawary posted an 11-5, 11-5, 11-4 win against sophomore Patrick Looby.

In match two against Wesleyan, the Cardinals saw Jack Lungstrum with an 11-7, 11-4, 11-3 win against Finkelstein from seven, followed by an 11-1, 11-2, 11-6 win by Shanay Sanghavi over Haslinger from five. At three, John Sutherby was an 11-4, 11-6, 11-3 winner over Lalji, while at nine, Preston Crawford notched an 11-2, 11-2, 11-1 win over VC's O'Leary.

Abhinav Gupta went on to earn an 11-8, 11-8, 11-7 win against Mustafa at two, while from six, Ethan Yan posted an 11-5, 11-2, 11-2 victory over Benson. Four was an 11-6, 11-6, 11-3 win for Toby Goldston over Chen, while eight saw Zachary Idinopulos with an 11-4, 11-2, 11-2 win over Kern.

The match concluded with the top of the ladder as Nimai Kini won by a hard-fought 11-7, 11-4, 10-12, 7-11, 11-7 margin over Jalali.

Vassar is back in action on January 22, traveling to Hamilton College for a 12pm match against the Continentals.
