SELINSGROVE, P.A. - The Vassar College Women's Volleyball team earned a hard-fought five set victory 25-18, 25-18, 15-25, 26-28, 15-11Â over Neumann on Saturday afternoon before dropping the nightcap to Susquehanna 14-25, 9-25, 12-25. Sophomore
Morgan Miller (Lone Tree, CO) buried a career-high 17 kills and junior
Maya Levine (Granby, MA) lifted a career-high 32 digs in the win over Neumann.

In the first set, Vassar got out to a quick 4-1 lead on kills from Miller, freshman
Melia Voss (Marietta, GA)Â and sophomore
Hailey Hayes (Canyon Lake, TX). Neumann got the score tied the set up at 10 apiece on a kill from Regan Hickey. After Vassar got the lead back to 14-12, the Brewers scored seven straight points as Hayes had two kills during the run as Vassar coasted to a 25-18 first set victory.
Vassar started the second set strong as the Brewers held a 10-4 lead after kills from Hayes and Miller helped the early run. A kill from Voss and two kills from freshman
Molly Delahunty (Newton, MA) pushed the lead to 15-6. Delahunty added another kill to end the second set as the Brewers took the second set 25-18.
Neumann began the third set with six of the first seven points as Hickey tallied two of the kills during the run. The Brewers cut the Knights lead down to one at 9-10 as Miller buried a kill following a service ace from Delahunty. However, Neumann tallied seven of the next eight to push its lead back to seven late in the set. Maria Brown posted back to back kills for the final two points as the Knights took the third set 15-25.
The fourth set had 22 lead changes as the Brewers and Knights were not seperated by more than three points at any point of the set. Neumann's biggest lead came at 4-7 following a Hickey kill as Vassar held multiple different two point leads throughout the set. Vassar reached match point at 24-23 following a Hayes kill but the Knights rallied back and eventually took the fourth set 26-28 on a Brewers attack error to force a fifth and deciding set.Â
Vassar took four of the first five points of the final set as Hayes and Miller each had a kill in addition to two errors. The Knights cut the lead down to three at 10-7 but Vassar pushed its lead back to six at 14-8 following two more kills from Hayes. Neumann had a late push following three straight kills by Hickey until Miller buried her 17th kill to conclude a career-high game to give Vassar a 3-2 match victory.
Miller posted an all-around strong outing for Vassar as she had 17 kills and 17 digs, both career-highs. Hayes finished with 14 kills, 22 digs and two blocks while Delahunty added nine kills, two service aces, and seven digs. Sophomore
Julia Hale (Hillsborough, CA) tallied five blocks on the day while Voss handed out a team-high 37 assists. Levine lifted her career-high 32 digs while freshman
Ellie Kogan (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 13 digs.
Hickey finished with 19 kills for the Knights as she also added 19 digs. Anna Mansel added 10 kills and two blocks while Lauren Garvey had eight kills and 24 digs. Dani Smith handed out a game-high 38 assists and lifted 24 digs along with Claudia Bournazel added 24 digs.
SUSQUEHANNA 3 VASSAR 0
The River Hawks got out to an early 2-5 lead in the first set before a kill from Hayes and a double block from Voss and Hale cut the advantage to one. Susquehanna's lead grew to 8-14 after a kill from Ryan Rorls but
Frannie Anthony-Brumfield's (Hanover, VA) kill and an attack error trimmed the lead down to four in the middle stages of the set. The River Hawks lead was 13-17 following a service error but Susquehanna rattled off eight of the next nine points of the first set to earn a 14-25 victory.
Susquehanna rolled out to a quick 1-7 lead in the second set until kills from Miller and freshman
Rebecca Gutierrez (Oak Park, IL) slowed the River Hawks run. After Vassar scored a point to trim the lead to 6-10, Susquehanna went on a 15-3 run in the final 18 points of the set and took a 2-0 match lead at 9-25.
The River Hawks started out strong once again in the third set as they got out to a 4-12 advantage early, keyed by three kills from Rosina Esposito. A kill from senior
Kaitlin Birnbaum (La Jolla, CA) cut the Susquehanna advantage to 6-14 but the River Hawks continued its strong play in the remaining of the third set and took the match 3-0 after a 12-25 third set victory.
Miller finished with four kills, four digs and a block for Vassar while Hale and Gutierrez each had two kills and a block. Voss handed out nine assists and added three digs and a block for Vassar. Levine finished with a team-high 10 digs.
Kody Dillon led the River Hawks with nine kills and Amanda Gore added eight kills and two blocks. Keira Roach had a game-high 27 assists as Lexie Kalligonis lifted a game-high 14 digs and had two service aces for Susquehanna.
Vassar returns to action at home on Tuesday for a non-conference tilt with Drew. First serve with the Rangers at Kenyon Gym is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
