POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Vassar College Women's Volleyball team fell in straight sets on Tuesday night as the Brewers dropped a 15-25, 18-25, 14-25 decision to Drew. Junior
Maya Levine (Granby, MA) lifted 14 digs as Vassar fell to 3-14 overall with the loss.
The Rangers got out to an early 2-7 lead in the first set as three different players picked up a kill in the run. Kills from freshman
Molly Delahunty (Newton, MA) and sophomore
Julia Hale (Hillsborough, CA) cut the lead to three before the Rangers tallied four straight points. Two more kills from Delahunty and one from sophomore
Frannie Anthony-Brumfield (Hanover, VA) late in the set cut the deficit but a kill from Jasmine Butler gave Drew a first set 15-25 victory.
Drew tallied the first eight points of the second set as Andrea Camacho-Tenreiro buried three of them. Kills from Hale, Anthony-Brumfield and sophomore
Molly Ardren (Essex, VT) cut the lead down to three at 9-12. Following a Rangers attack error that trimmed the lead back to three at 13-16, Drew scored seven of the next eight winners with Camacho-Tenreiro having two kills and two service aces. The Rangers took the second set on a kill from Teeya Desgoutte to win 18-25.
Vassar took a 12-9 lead in the third set after a kill from sophomore
Morgan Miller (Lone Tree, CO) and a solo block from freshman
Rebecca Gutierrez (Oak Park, IL). Drew responded with a 7-2 run to take a 14-16 lead after service ace by Leila Ksiyer and a kill from Camacho-Tenreiro. The Rangers scored the final nine points of the match and earned a 3-0 match victory after a 14-25 third set win.
Hale finished the match with a team-high six kills as Anthony-Brumfield added four winners. Freshman
Melia Voss (Marietta, GA) handed out 10 assists while Ardren also added seven assists. Levine had a match-high 14 digs while Miller and freshman
Noa McCrane (Los Angeles, CA) each chipped in eight digs.Â
Camacho-Tenreiro had a match-high 15 kills and added six digs and two service aces. Ksiyer chipped in six kills, five service aces and 11 digs for the Rangers while Jasmine Butler added 27 assists and four aces.
The Brewers will return to the court on Saturday for a tri-match with Liberty League foe St. Lawrence and Kean. The first match with the Saints is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. while the nightcap with the Cougars is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Kenyon Gym.
