SELINSGROVE, P.A. - The Vassar College Women's Volleyball team fell on the road to Thiel 13-25, 14-25, 16-25 in the first game of the Keener/Swazey Superstar Invite on Friday evening at Susquehanna University. Sophomore
Morgan Miller (Lone Tree, CO) buried a team-high nine kills as the Brewers fall to 2-12 overall on the season.
Early in the first set, the Brewers went back and forth with the Tomcats as Miller's first kill tied the set up at four apiece. Thiel proceeded to score seven straight points to take a 4-11 lead. Three straight points from Vassar, including a kill and an ace from freshman
Melia Voss (Marietta, GA), brought the Brewers back to a 10-13 deficit.
Thiel pushed its lead back to six but freshman
Molly Delahunty (Newton, MA) cut the lead down to four after a kill and a service ace. The Tomcats tallied nine of the next 10 points in the set to take the first set 13-25.
Thiel took an 7-11 lead in the second set until Delahunty tallied two kills in the next three points to cut the lead down to three. The Tomcats kept its lead midway through the set as kills from Miller and sophomore
Julia Hale (Hillsborough, CA) cut into the Thiel at 12-18. Sophomore
Hailey Hayes (Canyon Lake, TX) tallied a kill late in the second set but Thiel took the second set 14-25 on a kill from Kylee Jordan.
The Tomcats scored the first three points of the third set before a double block by Hale and junior
Ava Casalino (Portland, OR) got the Brewers going in the set. Thiel pushed its lead to 2-7 before Vassar tallied three of the next four points, including a double block by Voss and freshman
Rebecca Gutierrez (Oak Park, IL) and a kill from Gutierrez.
Thiel's lead grew to 9-16 before four kills from Miller and a kill from sophomore
Frannie Anthony-Brumfield (Hanover, VA)Â cut the lead down to three at 16-19. The Tomcats scored the final six points of the set as Kylee Eaton had two kills and Maria Torres had a kill and two service aces to win the match 3-0.
Miller finished with nine kills and seven digs for Vassar as Delahunty added seven kills, one block and one service ace. Voss tallied 19 assists and seven digs while junior
Maya Levine (Granby, MA) lifted a team-high nine digs.Â
Torres had a game-high 13 kills for Thiel as she also added five aces and 12 digs. Eaton added six kills while Carlie Reynolds handed out 14 assists and added two aces. Danielle Aulet lifted a game-high 13 digs as Brooke Talbot tallied a team-high 15 assists.
Vassar returns to the court tomorrow afternoon as the Brewers will take on Neumann at 1:00 p.m. followed by the host Susquehanna at 5:00 p.m.
