SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Vassar men's and women's rowing teams concluded their fall season in fine fashion on Saturday with a busy slate of races at the 2022 Head of the Fish Regatta in Saratoga Springs. The Brewers competed in eight different races on the day, which was highlighted by a first-place finish from the men's collegiate novice four.
The day opened with the men's Collegiate Novice Eight as the Brewers raced to eighth overall in 12:28.18. Comprising that boat were sophomore coxswain Abigail Straus, rookies
Robert Gee,
Trygve Aarestad,
Jasper Piermarini,
T Charles Martin,
Henry France and
Patrick Horiszny, sophomore
John Matter and rookie
Oscar Rendall Todd.
Next up was the men's Collegiate Four as the Brewers saw two boats in the race. The A boat, comprised of senior coxswain
Nicholas Howard and classmates
Bela Arwen,
Will Clendenning,
Lucas Angles and
Jakob Huddleston, finished 20th overall in a time of 12:53.48, while the B boat of junior coxswain
Jean Fassler, juniors
Rafi Ettinger-Finley,
Nick Winkler and
Gage Karlin, along with sophomore
Ben Vinson. That group posted 25th overall in a time of 13:07.76.
The women's Collegiate Novice Four was up next with the Brewers earning 13th overall in a time of 16:29.63. That boat was comprised of sophomore coxswain Brooklyn Walsh, sophomores Risha Kulkarni, Kathleen Brawley, Cayla Kallman and rookie Elsie McKendry.
Next event saw Vassar compete in the women's Collegiate Eight, earning 24th overall in 14:59.98. Comprising the eight boat was coxswain Straus, sophomores Posey Whidden, Anna Bishop, Rebecca Middlen, McKendry, juniors Paris James and Isabel McGuire, Brawley and senior Victoria Horner.
The men's Collegiate Eight was next up as the squad took 16th overall in 12:01.00. Comprising that crew was Fassler, Huddleston, Angles, Winkler, Arwen, Vinson, Ettinger-Finley, Clendenning and Karlin.
In the women's Collegiate Novice Eight, the Brewers saw rookie coxswain Taylor Frazier, classmate Bridgette Nally, Sitota Blomquist, Isabella Zumbolo, Madeline Stewart, sophomores Tara D'Amico, Madelyn Turner, rookie Mila Seifert and Dorien Laurens. The group finished 18th on the day with a time of 15:53.10.
Next was the women's Collegiate Four as Walsh, Kallman, Middlen, Bishop and Whidden powered their way to 28th overall in a time of 14:20.30.
The last event of the day for the Brewers came in the men's Collegiate Novice Four as the Vassar boat of Howard, Martin, Vinson, Aarestad and Gee won the race with a time of 12:16.15. The Brewers also saw the group of Straus, Matter, France, Rendall Todd and Piermarini take 10th overall in a time of 13:53.68.
