ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Vassar College Women's Volleyball team lost in straight sets 17-25, 6-25, 18-25 to conference foe RIT on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore
Julia Hale (Hillsborough, CA) recorded three blocks as the Brewers fell to 4-16 overall and 3-5 in Liberty League play.
Vassar got out to an early 6-4 lead in the first set as sophomore
Hailey Hayes (Canyon Lake, TX) buried a kill and junior
Maya Levine (Granby, MA) knocked down a service ace. After a kill from sophomore
Molly Ardren (Essex, VT) got the Brewers up by two at 8-6, the Tigers scored the next four points to take an 8-10 lead.
Freshman
Rebecca Gutierrez (Oak Park, IL) recorded a service ace to tie the set up at 11 apiece before RIT rattled off three in a row. RIT pushed its lead up to seven at 14-21 after a service ace from Liv Benard. Freshman
Molly Delahunty (Newton, MA) buried a kill followed by a service ace to cut the lead to 17-24 but the Tigers won the first set on a kill from Calista Gasper.
RIT scored the first 11 points of the second set until a double block from Hale and sophomore
Frannie Anthony-Brumfield (Hanover, VA) stopped the Tigers run. Hayes, Delahunty and Ardren each recorded a kill in the set as RIT took the set 6-25.
The Tigers raced out to an early 1-9 lead as a kill from Hayes stopped the early third set run. Vassar cut the RIT lead to four when freshman
Ellie Kogan (Brooklyn, NY) landed a service ace at 14-18. A double block from Gutierrez and Ardren followed by a Tigers attack error kept the RIT lead at four but RIT scored four of the final five points to take the final set 18-25.
Hayes finished with a team-high five kills while also adding two blocks. Delahunty added three kills along with four digs for the Brewers. Hale had a team-high three blocks while Ardren handed out 12 assists. Freshman
Noa McCrane (Los Angeles, CA) lifted eight digs to lead Vassar.
Benard finished the day with 16 kills while adding two aces and two blocks. Gasper finished with eight kills and five blocks for the Tigers while Corie Beale knocked down five service aces. Sydney Neff handed out a game-high 38 assists while Hailey Blixt lifted eight digs.
Vassar returns to action on Wednesday evening as the Brewers head to Montclair State for a non-conference contest. First serve with the Red Hawks is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
