ITHACA, N.Y. - The Vassar College Women's Volleyball team dropped a three set road match 11-25, 18-25, 15-25 at Ithaca on Friday evening. The Brewers fall to 5-16 overall and 3-4 in Liberty League action.
Ithaca got out to an early 3-0 lead in the first set before kills from sophomoresÂ
Frannie Anthony-Brumfield (Hanover, VA) and
Hailey Hayes (Canyon Lake, TX) got the Brewers on the board. The Bombers tallied the next 10 points before Anthony-Brumfield stopped the run with another kill.
Vassar scored back to back points to cut the lead to 6-16 following a double block by freshman
Rebecca Gutierrez (Oak Park, IL) and Hayes along with a solo block from freshman
Molly Delahunty (Newton, MA). Delahunty tallied a kill and an ace to cut the lead back to 9-19 before Ithaca won the first set 11-25.
The Brewers scored the first point of the second set when sophomore
Molly Ardren (Essex, VT) put down a kill and then Hayes buried back to back kills to tie the set up at three. Following a double block from Ardren and Gutierrez, Ithaca took the next five points before kills from Hayes and Delahunty cut the Bombers lead to one. Sophomore
Julia Hale (Hillsborough, CA) and Hayes each buried a kill to cut the lead to 13-15 but the Bombers scored six of the next seven to push its lead to 14-21. Vassar cut the lead to 17-22 following a Gutierrez ace but the Bombers took the second set 18-25.
Ithaca took an early 6-2 lead in the third set before Hale buried a winner and Vassar trimmed the lead to two at 5-7. Anthony-Brumfield picked up two kills and Hale added one as Vassar got within four at 12-16. The Bombers ran its lead up to 13-22 before Hayes picked up a kill to halt the run. Ithaca scored three of the final four points to earn a third set 15-25 victory.
Hayes and Anthony-Brumfield each had seven kills on the night as Hayes added six digs. Delahunty added five kills along with an ace and a block while Gutierrez added three blocks. Ardren handed out 20 assists for the Brewers while junior
Maya Levine (Granby, MA) lifted six digs.Â
Camryn O'Leary led the Bombers with a match-high 11 kills while three other players had six kills. Grace Isaksen finished with seven service aces and Peyton Miller handed out a match-high 31 assists and lifted 15 digs. Isaksen and Julia Costa each had 10 digs for Ithaca.
Vassar returns to the court at RIT tomorrow afternoon in a Liberty League matchup. First serve with the Tigers in Rochester is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
