Men's Soccer Plays to 1-1 Draw at Clarkson

Keker's equalizer helps Brewers to tie Golden Knights

POTSDAM, N.Y. – A pair of second half goals led to a 1-1 draw as Clarkson University hosted Vassar College in Liberty League men's soccer action on Friday afternoon. The Golden Knights are now 7-2-3 and 1-2-3 in the league, while the Brewers move to 7-3-2 and 3-0-2 in the Liberty League standings.

After a scoreless opening half of action that saw Vassar outshoot the Golden Knights by a 5-4 margin, it was Clarkson in the second half to grab the go-ahead tally. Off a pass from Logan Drake, Clarkson's James Nicholas drove the ball in past Vassar keeper Eric Wnorowski for the advantage in the 53rd minute.

Vassar answered in the 61st minute on the sixth goal of the season from sophomore midfielder Duncan Keker. Senior middie Kinlay Watkins earned the assist on the play, sending in a well-placed ball on the corner to the middle. Keker was there to head the ball in for the equalizer.

Both teams had several chances in the late stages to grab to go-ahead score, but neither were able to capitalize. Clarkson's Simon Falck sent a shot wide right in the 66th minute, while Vassar's Liam Kleitz had a shot sail just over the crossbar in the 69th minute.

Vassar had back-to-back attempts in the 86th minute as Keker forced Golden Knights keeper Josh Morelli to make a timely stop, followed by another scoop save from Morelli seconds later on a right-side attempt from senior captain Owen Fauth.

Keker had a final chance for the Brewers in the 89th minute, but his shot clanked off the post and out of danger, keeping the score at 1-all.

Vassar owned an 11-9 margin in shots for the game, including a 5-4 edge on goal. The Brewers had a 10-2 edge in corner kicks as well for the contest.

In goal, Wnorowski recorded two stops in the draw, while Morelli made four saves for the Golden Knights.

Vassar returns to action on Saturday, heading down the road for a 2pm tilt at St. Lawrence University.
