RIVERDALE, NY – The Vassar College women's soccer team kicked the 2021 season off in winning fashion, edging New York University by a 1-0 margin on Saturday at Gaelic Park. The Brewers victory marked the first with head coach
Keith Simons at the helm of the program, who took over in June.
Vassar's lone goal came at the 54:44 mark of the contest as sophomore
Jacqueline Morrison netted her first collegiate tally. Taking a lead pass from first year
Noelle Namba down the left flank, Morrison tapped it in from inside the box past NYU keeper Riley Felsher.
NYU had a solid chance to even the contest at the 71:27 mark as Sam March sent a shot in, but her attempt was blocked away by Vassar keeper
Teresa Zimmer.
In goal, Zimmer posted three saves for her first collegiate victory, while Felsher stopped one shot in her collegiate debut.
Vassar is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts its home opener at Gordon Field against Montclair State at 4pm. The Violets return to the pitch on Friday, hosting Swarthmore at Gaelic Park at 7pm.
