Brewers Drop Liberty League Opener to RIT

ROCHESTER, N.Y. –RIT snapped a six-game Vassar winning streak on Saturday afternoon, downing the Brewers 2-1 in the Liberty League opener. The game was tied 1-1 at halftime, but a Tigers' goal at the 60th minute gave RIT the eventual victory. With the loss, Vassar moves to 6-2 and 0-1 in the conference. RIT goes to 5-2-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the Liberty League.

The Vassar offense came out of the gate hot early in the first half by taking two shots within the first six minutes. The Brewers broke through the Tigers' defense at 24:32 following a corner kick. Eamon Geraghty (Oneonta, NY) passed the ball to Austin Lukasik (Jupiter, FL), who found the back of the net for the opening goal.

RIT responded 14 minutes later, scoring off their corner kick attempt. The ball went from Carlos Cardona to Daniel Gebura and was quickly passed to Randy Dickersbach for the equalizing goal. Lukasik fired one more shot on goal with under 30 seconds to play, but RIT goalkeeper Jason Trapp made the save.

The Tigers rattled off four shots in a five-minute span, and then the fifth shot found its way past the Vassar goalkeeper. Jonathan Cohen received the pass from Cardona to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead at 60:01. Vassar had one more chance following a free kick after an RIT yellow card at 80:42. Ryan Lane (Santa Monica, CA) fired the shot, but Trapp turned the shot away.

RIT went on to outshoot Vassar 13-7, but the Brewers held a 4-3 corner kick advantage. Eric Wnorowski (Mantoloking, NJ) made five saves in the loss, and Trapp had three.

Vassar returns home for its next game, playing Bard on Wed. Sept. 29 at 4 p.m. on Gordon Field.
