Strong efforts on day two from Brewers in singles and doubles

GENEVA, NY - Action at the 2021 ITA Northeast Regional Tournament concluded for the Vassar women's tennis team on Saturday, but not without strong efforts from the two remaining singles players and doubles duo.

In singles action, sophomore Sofie Shen squared-off against New York University's Carol Plakk, suffering a tough 6-1, 6-0 loss to conclude play. Rookie Macey Dowd took on Rochester's Josie Libby, besting her opponent by a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 margin. She advanced to the quarterfinals to face Skidmore's Katherine Almquist, unable to advance to the semis as Almquist won 6-4, 6-1.

Doubles action saw senior Melina Stavropoulos and Dowd in action following a strong 8-5 win on Saturday against a duo from TCNJ. Sunday saw the pair face Rensselaer's sister-duo of Krisia and Lorna Flores Gonzalez. The Engineers pair were the victors by an 8-2 margin to end Vassar's run.

Several players also competed in consolation action today, including senior Cara Kizilbash, who recorded an 8-3 win over Rochester's Stephanie Kim. Rookie Elyse Duley was also in action, battling for an 8-4 victory over New Paltz's Anya Bartek. In doubles consolation action, Stavropoulos went on to pair with Duley, the duo recording an 8-4 win over Hamilton's Claire Cutler and Staphanie Pratt. Additionally, Shen and Kizilbash also paired up in the consolations, shouldering a hard-fought 8-7 (12-10) loss to Skidmore's Ella Provost and Konika Dhull.

Vassar is back on the court on Sunday, October 3 when it heads to Worcester, Mass., for a 12pm match at Holy Cross.
