Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Brewers Shutout Cardinals for Fifth Straight Win

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Vassar men's soccer team earned its third consecutive shutout and fifth straight win in a 2-0 victory over Plattsburgh State on Saturday afternoon. The Brewers scored late in the first half and then midway in the second to move to 5-1 overall. Meanwhile, the Cardinals slip to 2-3.

Defenses controlled the tone early, with not a single shot until the 15th minute. Plattsburgh's Juan Velez kicked the first shot, but it sailed wide. Then Teddy Borgos (Queensbury, NY) and Ryan Lane (Santa Monica, CA) attempted and could not connect. Cardinals' goalkeeper Teddy Healey stopped a shot from Nathan Logan (San Francisco, CA) at the 28th minute.

Vassar finally broke through with under 30 seconds remaining in the half. A Brewers corner kick went from Austin Lukasik (Jupiter, FL) to Ethan Snyder (Albany, NY) and quickly dished off to Logan for the opening score at 44:49.

Plattsburgh picked up the pace early in the second. Yusif Okine fired at the Brewers goal at 45:40, but Vassar goalkeeper Eric Wnorowski (Mantoloking, NJ) made the save. Wnorowski tallied another save following a Cardinals' corner a few seconds later to keep Vassar ahead by one. The Brewers' stayed locked in, stopping a bottom center attempt by Liam Raaen at 56:03.

The action went back-and-forth until late in the 75th minute. In another double assist goal, the ball went from Lukasik to Lane before Borgos launched the shot for his first-career goal.

The Vassar defense dug in afterward by only giving up one Plattsburgh shot attempt for the remainder of the half. The Brewers beat the Cardinals 14-11 in shot attempts and held a 5-3 corner kick advantage.

Wnorowski earned his third shutout of the season and added four saves. Cardinals' Healey also made four stops.

The Brewers are back home on Wed. Sept. 22 for their final non-conference game against Manhattanville at 4 p.m. on Gordon Field.
