POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Despite RPI claiming the first and second spots, the Vassar men's cross country used a solid pack of five runners finishing in the top-ten to win the Ron Stonitsch Invitational on Saturday morning at the Vassar Farm. The Brewers claimed the team title with 30 points, while the Engineers were second with 35 points.

The RPI duo of sophomore Matthew Lecky and John Reed went one-two at 18:53.5 and 19:18.5, respectively, in the 6,000-meter course. Senior Jack Casalino (Portland, OR) was the next finisher at 19:21.5 for third overall. Junior Miles Takiguchi (Portland, OR) was four seconds behind Casalino, earning fourth at 19:25.9.

SUNY Delhi's Seth Bywater split the Vassar pack, but seniors Reed Dolan (Ipswich, MA) and Johnathan Dean (Florence, MA) crossed within two seconds at sixth and seventh, respectively. Dolan crossed at 19:35.9, while Dean ran a 19:37, nearly a minute faster than a personal best.

First-year Benny Clark (Landenberg, PA) ran a tough race to take the tenth spot at 19:39.2. Sophomore Aidan Mayer (Croton-on-Hudson, NY) crossed the line next to at 19:52.1 for 15th overall. First-year John Hurly (Haddonfield, NJ) was the seventh Vassar finisher and went 22nd at 20:02.6. Fellow freshman Tim Buchan (Summit, NJ) placed closed behind at 20:05.8 to take 26th, and Simon LaClair (Northampton, MA) went 29th at 20:18.7.

Vassar returns to action next Friday for the New Paltz Invitational on Sept. 17 at 5 p.m.
