SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY - It was a hard battle on the road for the Vassar men's tennis team, taking on Skidmore in Liberty League action on Saturday afternoon. The Brewers shouldered a 6-3 loss to the Thoroughbreds, suffering their first loss of the season to move to 4-1 overall (4-1 LL). Skidmore moves to 4-1 as well (4-1 LL).
Doubles action belonged to the Thoroughbreds as the home team swept the action. Third doubles garnered the first point as Kevin Ha and Zachary Portnoy combined for an 8-3 win over junior

Arun Guruswamy. At one, the senior duo of
Adam Krueger and
David Gandham shouldered a tough 8-5 loss to Sergiu Celebidachi and Noah Williamson. The Thoroughbreds moved it to a 3-0 advantage following two as Brendan Jimenez and Connor Biernat partnered for an 8-5 win against Vassar rookies
Jay Wong and
Benjamin Almquist.
Singles action saw Skidmore move it to a 4-0 margin as Williamson bested Krueger, 6-2, 6-3 from four. The Brewers got on the board from the first flight as Gandham earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory against Jimenez. Skidmore secured the match victory with the fifth point from six as Tristan Thiebaut posted a 6-2, 6-1 win against Guruswamy. Wong got Vassar its next point at two, gutting out a 7-5, 1-6, 7-5 victory against Portnoy.
Biernat made it a 6-2 score from five as he defeated Ivanovic by a 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (11-9) margin. Almquist garnered the final point for the Brewers, posting a hard-fought 7-5, 6-7 (3-7), 7-5 victory against David Cohen.
Vassar is back in action on Wednesday when it plays in the Liberty League Tournament Semifinals. The Brewers have earned the fourth-seed in the semifinals and will play at top-seeded RPI on Wednesday at a time to be announced soon..
