SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Union College scored 10 second half goals enroute to a 17-9 victory over Vassar College in Liberty League women's lacrosse action on Friday evening. With the victory, the Dutchmen move to 2-1 overall (2-1 in LL), while the Brewers fall to 0-1 following their first contest of 2021.

Natalie Daigle. The Dutchwomen cut the advantage to one (3-2) at 20:16 as Lindsay Gerrato capitalized on a feed from Dana Truini.
The score remained the same until the 12:11 mark when Union's Anna Smith scored unassisted to tie it at 3-all. A goal from Porette pushed the visiting Brewers back into the lead, but a free position goal from Ava Hultgren once again deadlocked the game at 4-4 with 6:35 to play in the opening half.
Porette once again found the back of the net for their second of the contest and a 5-4 edge at 6:17, but Isabel Bush tied it at 5-5 for the Dutchwomen seconds later. The home team used that momentum to add two more goals to the frame as Truini and Heiting both scored for a 7-5 lead at halftime.
A quick Union goal to open second half action saw Porette counter with their third of the contest at 27:25 to pull the Brewers to within 8-6. VC could not contain a quick burst by the Dutchwomen as Heiting scored on the free position, followed by goals from Sydney McPartion and Gerrato in a one-minute span to put Union up 11-6 at 24:07.
Senior attack
Alessandra Fable buried a pass from Daigle to cut the deficit to 12-7 for the Brewers at 19:30, but another quick burst of goals at 12:56 saw the home team grab a 14-7 edge. Roberts, who scored the Brewers final two goals, added their third tally of the contest with 2:14 remaining, but it wasn't enough to overcome Union's advantage.
Both Porette and Roberts had three goals each in the game, with Porette adding a team-high two assists with five draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover. Daigle also added a team-best two assists. Chou recorded a goal and an assist with four ground balls, five draw controls and a caused turnover, while Fable and senior midfielder
Skylar Herrera-Ross each had team-high two caused turnovers. In goal, rookie
Lauren Johns made 14 stops.
For Union, Gerrato posted a game-best four goals, adding three ground balls and a game-high seven draw controls. Heiting and Bush both had three tallies, while Elizabeth Hernberg notched a game-best seven ground balls and four caused turnovers. Earning the win in goal for Union was Jenna Paszek, who made six saves.
Saturday will see the rematch between the two squads as action shifts to Poughkeepsie and the Weinberg Turf Field. Action begins at 1pm between the Brewers and Dutchwomen and can be followed live online. Spectators are not allowed at this time at Vassar home matches.
