#39 Men's Tennis Defeats Ithaca in Senior Day Action

Brewers solid in 9-0 victory over the Bombers on Josselyn Courts

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - It was a Senior Day to remember for Vassar's three members of the Class of 2021, all of whom earned victories as Vassar defeated Ithaca on Saturday at Josselyn Courts. The 39th-ranked Brewers earned a 9-0 victory to improve to 3-0 on the season. The Bombers are now 3-2 on the season.

Doubles 2-3-1 Doubles action kicked things off as the rookie duo of Jay Wong and Benjamin Almquist defeated Ithaca's Anthony Villella and Eric Dubilirer by an 8-2 margin at two. Next off court was junior Mihaljlo Ivanovic and rookie Arun Gurusawmy, as they bested Nicolas Luis and Jacob Wachs at three by an 8-5 margin. Rounding out doubles action was the senior pairing of David Gandham and Adam Krueger, who battled at one against Minos Stavrakas and Deon Kraft for an 8-7 (7-5) victory.

Holding a 3-0 advantage, Ivanovic made it a 4-0 score with a 6-2, 6-0 win against Kraft at five. Match point was secured at three as Almquist bested Khaybullin, 6-2, 6-1. Senior Nicolas Demaria made it a 5-0 edge at six, earning a 6-2, 6-2 win against Villella. Wong picked up the Brewers next point, defeating Luis 7-5, 6-1, while Gandham was the squad's eighth point with a win at one as his opponent retired in the second set with a 6-4, 4-2 score at the time.

Concluding the action was Krueger, who posted a 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) win over Dubilirer at four to wrap up the Brewers third win of the year.

Vassar returns to action next Saturday in a 3pm match against Union in Schenectady. Ithaca hosts Hobart next Saturday at 1pm.
