POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – It was a clean sweep for the Vassar College men's squash team to open the 2021-22 season as the Brewers defeated Fordham University and Northeastern University by a 6-3 margin in both matches. Vassar opens its campaign with a 2-0 mark.
In the morning opener against the Rams of Fordham, the Brewers saw outstanding performances throughout the lineup.
From one, sophomore
Rithik Jalali bested Patrick Rodden by a 3-1 (11-8, 8-11, 11-8, 11-6) score. The Brewers posted victory at three as senior
Henry Mitchell recorded a 3-0 (11-4, 11-7, 11-8) win against Jake Bennett.
Rookie
Patrick Looby picked up the "W" from five, gutting out a hard-earned, 3-2 (11-5, 9-11, 11-2, 8-11, 11-9) win against Winthrop Reed. At seven, freshman
Jarid Haslinger defeated Dylan Panichello, notching a 3-0 (11-2, 12-10, 11-4) victory.
Vassar got another victory from eight as rookie
Azaan Malik bested Caleb Schumacher, 3-0 (11-5, 11-9, 11-9), while nine was another Brewers win as senior captain
Reese Collins posted a 3-0 (11-0, 11-2, 11-2) victory over Aarav Jhunjhunwala to close out the VC wins.
In the evening match against the Huskies, Jalali moved to 2-0 on the season at one with a 3-0 (11-4, 11-6, 11-6) win over Elias Paul. Junior
Sameer Mustafa picked up the win at two, recording a hard-earned 3-2 (11-4, 12-14, 8-11, 11-7, 11-9) against Alexander Swenson.
Another victory came from six as senior captain
Alex Wisneski bested Charles Tipton by a 3-2 (11-8, 8-11, 11-7, 7-11, 11-8) margin. Haslinger earned his second win of the season, posting a 3-0 (11-3, 11-6, 16-14) win from seven.
Malik picked up his second win, besting Harrison Seeley at eight by a 3-0 (11-7, 14-12, 11-4) score. Collins then closed out the victories, defeating Matthew Giulano, 3-0 (11-2, 14-12, 11-4).
The Brewers return to action tomorrow, opening the day at 9am with a match against Swarthmore. Vassar will then take on Georgetown at 12pm, followed by a 1:30pm tilt against Boston University to close out the weekend action.
