ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY – It was a clean sweep for the Vassar men's squash team, which posted wins over Colgate and Lafayette at the Bard College Round Robin on Saturday. The Brewers defeated the Raiders by an 9-0 score, before downing Lafayette, 8-1. With the wins, Vassar moves to 5-2 on the season.
In the win over Colgate, the Brewers saw a clean sweep from the top of the ladder to the number eight spot. Rookie
Rithik Jalali earned a 3-0 (11-4, 11-3, 11-5) win over Dillon Howard at one, while senior
Henry Mitchell was a 3-0 (11-6, 11-4, 11-4) victor at two. Freshman
Patrick Looby earned the win at three over Matthew Webb by a 3-0 (11-5, 11-3, 11-4) margin, while at four, senior
Max Swan was a 3-0 (11-5, 11-6, 11-7) winner over Connor Kenefick.
Five saw senior captain
Alex Wisneski take down Michael Malof, 3-0 (11-5, 11-4, 11-2), while from six, rookie
Jarid Haslinger was a 3-0 (11-5, 11-2, 11-4) winner over Cole Jarczyk.
From seven, rookie
Azaan Malik, the reigning Liberty League Rookie of the Week was a 3-0 (11-1, 11-1, 11-4) winner against Alexander Gellert, while senior captain
Reese Collins – the reigning Performer of the Week in the league - defeated Dong Wang 3-0 (11-1, 11-4, 11-1).
Next up saw the Brewers against Lafayette as Mitchell kicked off the wins at two with a hard-fought 3-2 (11-5, 9-11, 9-11, 11-5, 11-7) win against Carter Gates. At three, Looby was a 3-0 (11-5, 11-6, 11-2) winner over Avery Warmack, while from four, Swan posted a 3-0 (11-3, 11-3, 11-6) win against Chris Cortazar.
At five, Wisneski powered his way to a 3-0 (11-8, 11-7, 11-5) win against Michael Walsh, while from six, Haslinger was victorious against Jack Leininger, 3-0 (11-1, 11-5, 11-4). Seven saw Malik take a 3-0 (11-3, 11-7, 11-2) decision over Quentin Humphrey, while Collins bested David Swain at eight, 3-0 (11-1, 11-1, 11-0).
The Brewers lone loss came at the top as Jalali suffered a hard-fought loss to Jack Burton by a 3-2 (6-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-8, 7-11) score.
Vassar returns to action on Sunday when it hosts Hobart College in Liberty League action at Kenyon Courts. Match time is set for 11am and will be followed by the women's match as the Vassar women host William Smith at 12:30pm.
