SEWANEE, TN – Eleven players scored a program record 25 goals as the Vassar College women's lacrosse team defeated Centre College by a 25-11 margin on Sunday at Puett Field on the campus of Sewanee: The University of The South. The Brewers remain undefeated on the season at 3-0, while the Colonels are now 3-4 overall.
The Brewers' 25 goals are the most recorded in program history – since records began in 1992. The previous high was 22 tallies, scored in a 1996 victory against Skidmore.
After a tight battle to open the game, the Brewers broke things wide open, turning a 3-3 tie into a 12-3 advantage. During that stretch, VC saw seven different players scored, paced by a hat trick from junior attack

Centre battled back, knocking in four straight to close the game to 12-7, but back-to-back goals from senior captain
Tessa Waters pushed the Brewers back to a seven-goal edge with 7:15 remaining in the opening half.
The Colonels once again pulled back to within five (14-5), but a three-goal stretch over the final 2:00 of the half saw Vassar head into the intermission with a 17-9 lead.

Melanie Silverman – who scored to end the first half – got things going to open the second with a goal at 28:25. Senior captain
Kelly Pushie, who assisted on both of Silverman's tallies, then notched her own off a pass from Roberts to begin running clock time at 26:16 with a 19-9 advantage.
The Brewers continued to keep the 10-goal differential in play, scoring five straight goals between 17:47 and 7:10 to give VC a 25-10 edge.
Leading the Brewers was Pushie, who notched three goals and a game-high six assists, adding three ground balls, two caused turnovers with a draw control. Roberts posted three goals with two assists, while Waters notched three tallies and an assist. Silverman chipped in with two goals and three assists, while Porette and Fable each recorded three goals. Junior midfielder
Kaela Parentis had two goals, while Porette also recorded a game-best five caused turnovers and was second among all players with nine draw controls. In goal, sophomore
Jackie Molloy earned the victory with three saves.
For Centre, Mary Katherine Hardy led all players with a game-best four goals. She also added an assist and had a game-best 10 draw controls with two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Bella Tacogue recorded three goals , while Marina Burke scored two goals. Abby Whitford notched a goal and an assist, while Clare Heaney had five draw controls. In goal, Lola Duff shouldered the loss with six saves.
The Brewers return to action on Tuesday when it takes on Sewanee: The University of the South at 5pm (Central Time) on Puett Field. Centre is back on the field on Wednesday at 6pm, hosting DePauw.
