Box Score WHITTIER, CA - Powered by a strong doubles efforts and a near-sweep in singles, the Vassar College men's tennis team posted an 8-1 win over Whittier College in non-conference action in California on Wednesday evening. The win moves the Brewers to 7-2 on the season, while the Poets drop to 0-6 overall.
Doubles action got off to a strong start as juniors
David Gandham and
Adam Krueger recorded an 8-2 win over Whittier senior Thomas Koszowski and sophomore Pim Van Der Veer at one. Three was next off court as senior captain
Allen Sokolov and sophomore Mihaljo Ivanovic earned an 8-5 victory against senior Maxwell Koszowski and junior Ian Ross. Finally from two, the Brewers made it a clean sweep as sophomores
Mathew Yee and
William Hwang edged out Whittier juniors Matt Yanuck and Jesse Eccles, 8-6.
In singles action, Gandham was the first off court at one as he powered his way to a 6-3, 6-1 win against Van Der Veer. Next up at two, Krueger grabbed the win over senior Sam Whitehill by a 6-2, 7-5 margin. Next off court was the six flight pairing as junior Rafael Maniego posted the Poets' lone point with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Hwang. Five was up next as Ivanovic took on senior Zachary Ambrosio, earning a 6-2, 6-7 (6-8), 13-11 win.
Sokolov then posted a 6-3, 7-5 win against Kosowski at four, while Yee closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-7 (4-7), 10-7 win against Yanuck.
Vassar returns to action on Friday when it takes on Haverford at 10am (Pacific Time) in action in Costa Mesa, CA.
