GENEVA, NY - Action at the 2020 Liberty League Championships has concluded for the Vassar men's squash team, who shouldered tough losses to St. Lawrence (8-1) and the University of Rochester (9-0) on the final day of action. The Brewers are now 5-18 on the season.
In the match against St. Lawrence, the Brewers saw a number of tough matches. Sophomore
Max Swan played to one of the longest matches on the day, squaring off against Daniel Rosas at eight. The match, which took 45 minutes, saw Swan win the first and second games by scores of 14-12 and 11-6. Despite the momentum, Rosas battled back for the 3-2 (12-14, 6-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-7) victory.
The Brewers earned their point from the ninth position as
Josh Finkelstein won by default. At number one, Enzo Corigliano bested
Sameer Mustafa, 3-0, while at two, Inwoo Lee posted a 3-0 win against
Milind Joshi. Aran Thawani was the 3-0 victor at three, defeating
Henry Mitchell, while four saw James Barrow with a 3-0 win against
Alex Wisneski.
Five was won by Aaron Levy, who defeated
Reese Collins, 3-0, while at six, Logan Thomas was a 3-0 winner over
Jonah Miles. Seven saw Tyler Schmalz pick up the 3-0 win against
Liam Condon.
In the afternoon match against Rochester, Matthew Toth earned a 3-0 win against Mustafa, while Abdelrahman Lasheen was a 3-0 winner against Joshi at two. Cesar Segundo Corona posted a 3-0 win over
Henry Mitchell at three, while Marcus Sim Wei Jie picked up the 3-0 win against Wisneski.
Five saw Thijs Van der Pluijm defeat Collins, 3-0, while from six, Sergio Martin earned a 3-0 win against Miles. At seven, Emilio Carrillo had a 3-0 win over Condon, followed by a 3-0 win by Alexander Riedelsheimer over Swan at eight. Wrapping up at nine was Quinlan Jeudy, who had a 3-0 victory against Finkelstein.
The Brewers are back on the court on Saturday with a busy day of action at Kenyon Hall Courts. VC faces Denison at 9am, followed by Boston University at 12:30pm. The day concludes against Swarthmore at 5:30pm.
