Box Score ROCHESTER, NY - The Vassar men's tennis team opened its spring season in fine fashion on Saturday, defeating Rochester Institute of Technology by a 9-0 score in Liberty League action. The Brewers are now 2-0 overall with both victories coming in league play. The Tigers fall to 2-1 on the season and 0-1 in Liberty League action.
Doubles action kicked things off with the second flight pairing of juniors
David Gandham (Ann Arbor, MI) and
Adam Krueger (Bay Village, OH) earning the first point. The duo posted an 8-5 score over Nick Lim and Pat Mathews to put the Brewers up 1-0.
Next up was the third doubles pairing of junior
Nicolas Demaria (New Hyde Park, NY) and sophomore
Mathew Yee (Sha Tin, Hong Kong) as they notched an 8-4 mark over Verosh Jayanetti and Jake Wolich for the two-point edge. Rounding out the sweep was the first pairing of seniors
Jeremy Auh (Scottsdale, AZ) and
Allen Sokolov (Woodland Hills, CA) as they bested Jacob Megerson and Brennan Ball, 8-4.
In singles play, Yee kicked things off with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jayanetti at two. Sokolov was the next victor for the Brewers as he made it a 5-0 edge for VC with a 6-2, 6-0 win against Spencer Lowitt.
First singles was next to finish as Gandham powered his way to a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Ball, while from three, Krueger bested Mathews, 7-6 (8-6), 6-1. Six was the next off court as sophomore
Mihajlo Ivanovic (Belgrade, Serbia) earned the win over Carter Casimir, 6-2, 6-1.
The match concluded at five as Auh defeated Wolich by a 6-2, 6-4 score.
Vassar is right back on court on Sunday when it takes on the University of Rochester in a 10am tilt.
