Men's Squash Shoulders Tough Opener at Liberty Leagues

Brewers fall to Bard and Hobart in Day 1 action

ROCHESTER, NY - The Vassar College men's squash team opened action at the 2020 Liberty League Championships on Saturday, shouldering tough losses to both Bard (6-3) and Hobart (9-0). The Brewers slip to 5-16 on the season with the losses.

Against Bard, the Brewers saw Alex Wisneski shoulder a 3-0 (12-10, 11-7, 11-2) loss to Martin Graham from four. The Raptors moved to a 2-0 lead in the match as Layl Andary posted a 3-0 (11-8, 11-5, 13-11) win against VC's Josh Finkelstein from nine. Next up at eight was Alex Luscher earning a 3-0 (11-4, 11-5, 11-7) win against the Brewers' Max Swan.

Vassar got its first point from the top of the ladder as Sameer Mustafa bested Theo Webb, 3-0 (11-8, 11-5, 11-8). Five then saw Reese Collins shoulder a tough 3-2 (11-4, 12-10, 9-11, 5-11, 7-11) loss to Lukas Roscoe to put the Raptors up 4-1. Bard grabbed its fifth win from three as Noah Gichan defeated Henry Mitchell by another tough 3-2 (9-11, 11-7, 11-9, 9-11, 11-7) margin.

The Brewers grabbed their second point of the match from seven as Liam Condon gutted out a 3-2 (6-11, 5-11, 11-7, 12-10, 11-9) victory against John M. Richards. Six saw Devon Wall best Jonah Miles, 3-1 (10-12, 11-5, 11-6, 11-5), while the match wrapped up at two as Vassar's Milind Joshi was a 3-1 (11-9, 2-11, 11-9, 11-8) winner against Artun Ak.

In the day's second match against the Statesmen, Hobart struck first as James Mazzarelli won 3-0 against Alex Wisneski from four. Cameron Temoyan then made it a 2-0 lead as he bested Collins, 3-0. From the top of the ladder, Quinn Udy was a 3-0 winner over Mustafa, while Mohamed Abdelhafez earned Hobart's fourth point with a 3-0 win against Mitchell from three.

Eight saw Charlie Beall and Swan gut out another five-set match with Beall earning the 3-2 (4-11, 5-11, 11-4, 11-7, 11-8) win, while at six, Eric Molina earned a 3-0 win over Miles. Nine saw another hard-fought match as Jeffery Wan earned a 3-2 (8-11, 9-11, 11-9, 12-10, 12-10) victory against Finkelstein.

From two, Giacomo Dalle Molle was the winner for Hobart as he bested Joshi by a 3-0 margin, while the match wrapped up at seven as Quaran Davis defeated Condon, 3-0.

Vassar is right back in action on Sunday as action shifts to the campus of Hobart and William Smith in Geneva, NY. The Brewers will face St. Lawrence at 11am, followed by a 2pm match against the University of Rochester.
