ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY - Points from all 10 players lifted Vassar College to an 85-39 victory at Bard College in Liberty League women's basketball action on Friday evening. With the win, the Brewers move to 14-6 overall and 10-3 in league play. The Raptors slip to 5-15 with an 0-13 Liberty League mark.
The Brewers were paced by senior captain and guard
Jackie Cenan, who poured in 21 points with five rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals. Junior guard
Ryan DeOrio added 13 points with five boards, two assists and two steals, while senior captain and center
Sophie Nick had 12 points, four caroms, an assist and a block.
For the Raptors, Christina Kiser came off the bench to record 12 points and a game-best seven rebounds, adding an assist and three steals. Marissa Munsell chipped in with 10 points and six rebounds, while Olivia Couture added seven points, four boards and two assists.
Vassar blazed out to a dominant lead, holding a 32-9 advantage after the opening quarter. The Raptors bounced back in the second frame as Kiser came in to record five straight points and cut the VC edge down to 21 (35-14) at 7:23. Munsell added a layup and banked a free throw with 5:23 remaining and Kiser once again came up big for the home team with a jumper and shot from the line to make it a 43-20 contest at 3:47.
Despite the Raptors momentum to close out the second, the Brewers took control in the third, going on a 9-0 run toward the end of the frame. The Brewers went 7-0 from the line during that span, including three free throw makes by DeOrio.
In the final frame, Bard came out strong with a 9-6 effort through to the 4:32 mark. The game belonged to the Brewers from that point as Cenan notched seven straight points, while rookie guard
Eliza Srinivasan and junior forward
Skylar Schmid each laid down a jumper to close out the scoring.
Vassar is back in action on Saturday, traveling to RPI for a 2pm game at the ECAV Gymnaisium. Bard returns to the court on Saturday as well, welcoming Skidmore at 2pm.
