POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - In the final regular season home games of the season, the Vassar College men's squash team sent its seniors off with a victory, posting an 8-0 win over Swarthmore College on Saturday at Kenyon Courts. The Brewers (6-20) also played Denison and Boston University, shouldering tough losses to both.
Against Boston University, the Brewers saw a number of hard-fought efforts despite the 8-1 score. From one, Hunter Chun and VC's
Sameer Mustafa battled to a 3-2 (11-7, 4-11, 11-4, 8-11, 9-11) decision in favor of the Terriers.
Next up from two, Frederick Haab posted a 3-1 (11-8, 6-11, 9-11 8-11) win against
Milind Joshi, while another 3-2 (13-11, 6-11, 11-8, 9-11, 4-11) battle played out at four between BU's Matthew Wallace and Vassar's
Alex Wisneski with Wallace grabbing the win.
The Brewers earned their lone point in the match from seven as
Max Swan bested BK Kim by a 3-2 (9-11, 2-11, 11-7, 13-11, 11-9) margin, coming from down two sets to earn the victory.
In the victory over Swarthmore,
Sameer Mustafa captured victory at one with a 3-0 (11-3, 11-8, 11-4) win against Ford Johnstone, while at two, Joshi was a 3-0 (11-6, 11-4, 11-8) winner over Robert Gunn. Three saw
Henry Mitchell record a 3-0 (11-5, 11-7, 11-7) win against Yichuan Yan, while Wisneski was victorious at four with a 3-0 (11-9, 11-9, 11-5) win against Nathan Pitock.
At five,
Reese Collins was a 3-0 (11-6, 11-8, 11-5) winner over Sannan Dhillon, while six was won by
Jonah Miles in a 3-0 (11-6, 11-4, 11-5) win against Tyler Soutendijk. At seven,
Liam Condon bested Paris Shan, 3-0 (11-5, 11-3, 11-9), while from eight,
Andrew Solender was victorious by a 3-0 (11-1, 11-3, 11-4) score against Sameer Halepoto.
The Brewers also celebrated its senior class today, honoring
Viraj Nadkarni and Solender for their hard work and dedication to the program.
Vassar is now idle until February 28 when it opens competition at the 2020 CSA Team National Championships, hosted by Harvard University through March 1.
