HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Vassar men's soccer team played No. 24 Stevens down to the wire, but it was not enough as the Ducks pulled off the 1-0 victory on Saturday night. Vassar now moves to 2-1-1, whiles the Ducks remain undefeated at 3-0.
Stevens held a slight 11-10 shot advantage, with defenses locking down on any scoring opportunities. In total, each side only took one shot on goal the entire night. Freshman
Owen Fauth (Keene, NH) led the Brewers with five shots, while junior Hawkins Barrett Heitmann (Cutchogue, NY) had two.
Neither side could break thorough in the first half, but the Brewers had a chance at 27:24 when Fauth kicked the on goal shot. Ducks' goalkeeper Aedan Boriotti came up with the stop and kept it 0-0. The Vassar defense held Stevens to five shots in the half and did not allow a single shot on goal.
The second half shaped up to be a similar affair. It was not until the 71st minute that Adam Silva from Stevens shot from 25 yards out into the upper right corner of the goal to give the Ducks a 1-0 lead. The Brewers managed two more shots following the score, but could not break through late in the game.
Junior goalkeeper
Luke Lefeber (Hoboken, NJ) started for Vassar, while Boriotti tallied the win for Stevens with one save.
Vassar continues their road trip on Wed. Sept 11 by traveling to New Paltz for a 4 p.m. contest.
