NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – A late first-half goal by New Paltz's Kevin Doorley clinched the win for the Ducks as the Vassar College men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision Wednesday afternoon.
With the loss, Vassar slips to 2-2-1, while the Hawks move to 4-1-0.
The contest started fast, with New Paltz firing off two shots on goal in the opening 40 seconds. Vassar was able to control the attack and countered with shots from
Eamon Geraghty (Oneonta, NY) and
Quinn Tunnell (Hersehy, PA) in the fifth minute. Geraghty made another attempt at 14:45, but Hawks' goalkeeper Marc DePasquale swatted the ball away. New Paltz finally was able to connect when Coltan Goodwine dished the pass to Doorley for the goal.
Vassar would have chances following the score, outshooting the Hawks 7-5 in the first half but were unable to capitalize. New Paltz went on to control the second half, taking a 9-3 shot advantage. Even with the barrage of shots,
Will Marment (Stamford, CT) held the Hawks scoreless in the second half and tallied four saves. He finished the game with five saves.
The Brewers wrap up their four-game road trip on Sat. Sept. 14 with a 1 p.m. at No. 4 Rochester.
