PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Vassar men's soccer team faced their first road test of the season, battling to a 1-1 tie with Manhattanville on Wednesday evening. Sophomore
Reis Kissel (Mercer Island, WA) scored the goal for Vassar off a
Nolan Alexander (New York, NY) assist for the Brewers lone goal. The draw moves Vassar to 2-0-1, while Manhattanville goes to 1-0-1.
In the first half, the Brewers limited the Valiants to two total shots, but it was the home team getting on the board first. Manhattanville's Eli Pardo took the pass from Nico Diaz and hit the post, but the ball bounced back into the net. After a shot from
Hawkins Barratt Heitmann (Cutchogue, NY), goalkeeper Patryck Siwiec of Manhattanville knocked the ball out of bounds. Alexander took the corner, which Kissel headed in for the score at 43:34.
Vassar held the 6-3 shot advantage in the second half.
Will Marment (Stamford, CT) made one save, while Siwiec tallied three to keep the game tied at the end of regulation.
In the first overtime, junior
Luke Lefeber (Hoboken, NJ) came in as the Vassar goalkeeper and made a key free kick save seconds after he entered. The second overtime was more of the same. Manhattanville had an opportunity at 105:07 when Dan Lombardo struck crossbar, and then the Brewers took the final corner kick, but could not get off a shot.
Sophomore
Quinn Tunnell (Hershey, PA) led the Brewers with three shots with two being on goal.
Vassar continues their road trip on Saturday, playing No. 24 Stevens at 8 p.m.
