Women's Volleyball Shoulders Tough Loss at Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, CT – Senior Colette Cambey recorded nine kills, but the Vassar College women's volleyball team was unable to get past Wesleyan University, falling 3-0 in non-conference action on Friday evening. With the win, the Cardinals remain undefeated on the season, moving to 4-0. The Brewers slip to 3-5 in the loss.

Wesleyan was paced by an 11-kill, match-best effort from Harper Graves, who also topped all players with 14 digs. She also added two service aces and two block assists. Nicole Hilton added nine kills and a match-high four block solos and four block assists, while Bella Ahearn added eight kills. Kaira Muraoka-Robertson posted a match-best 24 assists.

Vassar was led by Cambey, who added two digs, a block solo and a block assist. Senior Jennifer Kerbs notched seven kills with three block assists, while sophomore Sara Ehnstrom had 16 assists with seven digs and three block solos. Classmate Madison Wilson recorded 10 assists with a team-best 12 digs.

Trailing 1-0 after the Cardinals took the opening set, 25-13, the Brewers grabbed an early advantage in the second stanza behind an attacking error and a Kerbs service ace. Wesleyan erased their deficit though, grabbing a 13-9 advantage behind a service ace from Jenna Otaola. A kill from Wilson closed the gap to three (13-10), but the Cardinals continued to put on the pressure to grab the 25-17 victory in set two.

Wesleyan opened an early lead in the third, but kills from Kerbs and Cambey, along with multiple errors, tied things at 4-all early. A 7-0 run helped the homestanding Cardinals build a bigger advantage that they would not relinquish enroute to the 25-12 set win and match victory.

Vassar is right back in action on Saturday when it heads to Danbury, CT, for matches against Morrisville State (12pm) and host Western Connecticut State (4pm).
