Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Brewers Shutout Knights, 2-0

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – After a defensive first half, the Vassar men's soccer team scored twice in the second to down visiting Mount Saint Mary 2-0 at Gordon Field on Sunday afternoon. Henrik Olsson (Tokyo, Japan) netted the first goal off a rare double assist, and freshman Owen Fauth (Keene, NH) scored late in the game to seal the win.

With the victory, Vassar moves to 2-0, while the Knights slip to 1-1.

The first half was mainly in the midfield with neither side allowing the other to attack the net. The Knights held a slight 4-2 shot advantage and fired two shots on goal that were saved by senior goalkeeper Will Marment (Stamford, CT). Vassar struggled to get into any rhythm offensively, but the backline was able to keep it a 0-0 game at halftime.

Early in the second half, sophomore Eamon Geraghty (Oneonta, NY) fired a shot on the Mount Saint Mary's net, but goalkeeper Tyler Rapp was there to make the stop. The Knights responded with a shot of their own, but the Brewers offense quickly transitioned down the field after regaining possession. In a unique sequence of plays, Alec Yeaney (Marietta, GA) headed the ball to Ethan Snyder (Albany, NY), who in turn headed it immediately to Olsson. Without losing a step, Olsson kicked the ball from the left side into the right corner of the net to put Vassar up 1-0 at 51:08.

Mount Saint Mary's had a few opportunities to tie the game up, but could not slip anything by the Brewers. At 85:21, the Knights lined up for a free kick in front of the Vassar net following a foul. Matt Wyant rocketed the shot forward, but Marment was there for the clutch save. One final score would come in the last minute of play when a miscue in the Knights' midfield led to ball popping over to a wide open Fauth. With the Knights goalkeeper out of the box, Fauth capitalized by taking the long range shot from 35 yards out for his first career-goal.

In goal, Marment finished the day with four saves, while the Knights' Rapp had five.

The Brewers face a four-game road trip now, starting with Manhattanville on Sept. 4 at 7 p.m.
