ITHACA, N.Y. – The Vassar men's tennis team fought hard, but it was the Bombers coming out on top 5-3 in the first round of the Liberty League Championships. The Brewers won two matches in singles, while winning one in doubles.
Allen Sokolov and
Jeremy Auh played the first doubles court and fell 8-4 to Ithaca's Minos Stavrakas and Colten Lavery. At the second court,
Mathew Yee and
Nicolas Demaria faced a challenging Bombers' duo and dropped the 8-2 decision. Vassar picked up their first win of the day in a tightly contested match at the third doubles.
Adam Krueger and
David Gandham edged Liam Spiegel and Sam McGrath 8-7.
Gandham did not get any rest in singles, playing another close match against Stavrakas. He was just beat 7-6 in the first set and unfortunately fell 6-4 in the second. Yee dropped the number two court 6-2, 6-4, while
Jamie Anderson had success at the third court. Anderson went 6-3, 6-4 against Michael Gardiner. Krueger took the No. 4 position by marks of 6-3 and 6-2. Auh and battled to an extra points match, but ultimately lost 6-4, 7-5.
