POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Vassar College women's tennis team returned home for the first time in more than a month on Saturday afternoon, welcoming RPI to the Josselyn Tennis Courts. And the No. 38 Brewers (11-5, 5-0 Liberty) continued rolling, earning their fifth straight win and remaining unbeaten in Liberty League play with an 8-1 triumph over RPI (6-9, 0-4 Liberty).
Vassar won all six singles matches in straight sets. In the No. 1 position,
Frances Cornwall (Poway, CA) defeated Sanjana Surapaneni by a 6-2, 6-3 count. After a tight first set,
Sarra Yekta (Las Vegas, NV) rallied to topple Junjia Lyu 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 2 spot. It was a similar score at No. 3 singles, with
Tara Edwards (Littleton, CO) beating Andrea Valencia 6-4, 6-1.
Melina Stavropoulos (Atherton, CA) knocked off Nisha Rajamohan 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 4 singles match, while
Morgane Flournoy (Grosse Pointe, MI), Vassar's No. 5, knocked off Jolee McCluskey by a score of 6-3, 6-1.
Meghan Rodick (Kapolei, HI) completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Elise White at No. 6 singles.
In doubles play, Cornwall and Edwards cruised to an 8-0 win over Lyu and Sonya Khudyakov at the No. 1 spot. The No. 3 doubles match was much tighter, with Flournoy and
Ashley Fair (Laguna Beach, CA) earning a 8-7 triumph over Valencia and Rajamohan. RPI did manage a victory at No. 2 doubles, as Surapaneni and Brenda Peng defeated Yekta and Stavropoulos by an 8-2 count.
On Saturday, the Brewers return to action by hosting St. Lawrence (7-4, 3-1 Liberty) at 2:30 p.m.
