POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – After picking up a key Liberty League win at Union on Friday, the Vassar College men's tennis team returned to action on Saturday with a non-conference matchup against NYU. Playing at home for the first time in nearly two months, the Brewers (7-6) fell to the Violets (4-3) by a 6-3 count at the Josselyn Tennis Courts.
Vassar began the day by taking two of the three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles,
Allen Sokolov (Woodland Hills, CA) and
Jeremy Auh (Scottsdale, AZ) defeated Zeb Zheng and Ben Teoh by a score of 8-5. The No. 2 doubles match went to a tiebreak before
Nicolas Demaria (New Hyde Park, NY) and
Mathew Yee (Sha Tin, Hong Kong) emerged victorious, 8-7, over Rahul Das and Lucas Biondi. At No. 3 doubles, NYU's Shrikar Kundur and Vishal Walia registered an 8-5 win against
Adam Krueger (Bay Village, OH) and
David Gandham (Ann Arbor, MI).
The Violets then notched five singles victories to clinch the overall win. Vassar's only triumph came in the No. 2 position, where Yee earned a 6-2, 7-6 decision over Stefan Rodic.
Walia beat Gandham 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Yanik Parsch topped
Jamie Anderson (Constantine, KY) 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 3 spot. At No. 4 singles, it was Das topping Krueger by a 6-2, 6-4 count. Sokolov fell to Biondi, 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 5 position, and NYU's Christian Otero defeated Auh 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 6 singles match.
Next weekend, the Brewers conclude their home slate with a pair of conference matches. Vassar (3-2 Liberty) hosts RPI (5-6, 3-1 Liberty) next Saturday at 10 a.m. before welcoming St. Lawrence (6-5, 2-2 Liberty) at 10 a.m. next Sunday.
