POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Vassar baseball team had 13 hits on the way to 14-8 victory over CCNY at Prentiss Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Evan Trausch led the way with four hits, three runs and three RBI. Pitcher
Zach Magee tallied his second win of the season and had six strikeouts.
With the win Vassar moves to 9-11, while the Beavers drop to 6-10.
CCNY got on the board first after two runs in the first inning. After a CNNY error, Taylor SMach reached second on
Jason Salerno reached home. Then Trausch singled to left center field allowing Smach to score. Trausch then scored off a McGannon single to put Vassar up 3-2.
Vassar used a four-run fourth inning to pull away 9-4. Trausch singled to right center field, which brought in
Bryan Rubin and
Matt Martino. McGannon and Trausch then reached home plate off an error from the Beavers' second baseman.
The Beavers kept the game within reach, cutting the lead to 9-8 at the top of the fifth. The Brewers did not allow anymore CCNY runs after that and scored five straight to close the game.
Salerno, Martino and
Jesse Mulham all had two runs each. Rubin and McGannon finished with three hits apiece.
Jake Silver pitched three innings and strikeout three-straight CCNY batters in the top of the seventh.
Vassar returns to action this Saturday to face RPI at 1 p.m.
