POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Vassar women's lacrosse team remains in the playoff hunt, and showed they can get there with a dominating 21-5 win over Bard on Tuesday evening.
Kelly Pushie (Mahwah, NY) led the Brewers with four goals, while senior
Emily Hamburger (Clarksville, MD) had a career-high six points from three goals and three assists.
With the win Vassar moves to 8-5 overall and 5-4 in the Liberty League. Meanwhile, Bard drops to 4-10 and 0-8 in the conference.
After a somewhat slow start, Vassar found its offense at 24:33 when Pushie scored from a
Fiona MacLeod (Garden City, NY) pass. The Brewers then scored three goals within the next two minutes to go up 4-0. At 18:38,
Lindsay Wolk (Parkland, FL) connected for the free position score, but Bard responded a few minutes later to get on the board.
The teams went back-and-forth on the next six goals but a pair from Hamburger and
Gabi Patick (East Rockaway, NY) in a 40-second span pushed the lead to 10-4. Bard netted one more in the half before MacLeod and
Grace Goodwin-Boyd each tallied a goal to take a 12-5 halftime lead.
Vassar completely shut out the Raptors in the second half and only allowed three shots. Hamburger scored two more times at the start of the half, while
Ashley Roberts (Bala Cynwyd, PA) tacked on a pair as well. Goodwin-Boyd netted the final two.
Hamburger, Waters and Goodwin-Boyd all finished with three goals each, while MacLeod, Roberts and Patick all had two. Three Brewers had three assists in Hamburger,
Melanie Silverman (Southbury, CT) and
Kaela Parentis (Clarence Center, NY). Freshman
Jackie Molloy (Buffalo Grove, IL) had four saves in the win.
Vassar closes the regular season at Union this Saturday at 2 p.m.
